My fellow Shoe-A-Holics, one of the hardest things for me to do when I dress, is to strike a balance between dressy and casual; compounded by the warmer weather, this proves exceedingly difficult when I want to remain cool, but still look put together. 

I often tell people that the outfit is, "All about the shoes," and in this case it really is.  Shorts have a very relaxed vibe about them, and the shorter they are, one risks venturing into beach territory.  So to keep from looking like I'm on the way to frolic in the surf, I ditched the (thongs) flip-flops (and yes, even the heeled variety), and instead went with a cleverly, cut-down, open-toe pump, which not only lengthens my legs, but also sharpens the look of the shorts.

All right, all you beautiful Shoe-A-Holics...where are your lovely stems taking you today?  To the mall?  Out to lunch?  Maybe even a little sightseeing?  Well you can do it all, and look stylish as you do so, keeping one thing in mind...the right shoe!

More often than not, shoes are bought for comfort or style, but rarely both; one doesn't have to be sacrificed for the other when you are out and about, or in at the office.  One of my favorite types of shoe are slides.  From the slippers I wear around the house, to these leather and suede beauties (pictured above and below), slides have an easy nature about them, and with the right pair you can add a glam factor to your outfit.

For a dressier, stylish pair of slides, look for ones with intricate detailing, like this woven upper, or ones with a tapered heel; comfort comes with a platform to take some edge off wearing a high heel, and in the quality of fabric, like a leather upper or a cushioned, suede-lined foot bed.

My fellow Shoe-A-Holics, thick-heeled shoes are trending once again, and a great way to sport this style without getting weighed down by the clunkiness of the stem, is to offset the heel with sleek, structural elements in the rest of the shoe!

Whether it be an open-toe, fun cutouts, or a buckle detail, a thick-heeled shoe can still be distinctively feminine when paired with other eye-catching elements!

Is it warm where you are my fellow Shoe-A-Holics?  Because, somewhere between temperatures hovering above freezing and torrential downpours, where I tread, the sun manages to heat things up quite nicely, and dare I say it?  Sandals are the footwear du jour!

Still too cool for my 'barely there' sandals, I love a substantial sandal in the spring; platform wedges that are sturdy and strong, are perfect when going out after May showers.  They elevate not just your feet from the puddles, but your style...wet feet are never stylish unless you are beach combing!

Every woman needs a girly pair of shoes, and my fellow Shoe-A-Holics, this pair is mine!  Now we all know that shoes have many functions, and we wear particular shoes for specific reasons, but to have pair of stems that play up your femininity, especially as you are coming and going is icing on the cake.

It's far too often, we, as women, don't express our softer, feminine side (or style); competing with our male counterparts or intimidated by female colleagues, we opt for traditional business attire which conveys strength and power.  But I ask you, all ye lovers of shoes, what is stronger or more powerful than being a woman?

 

So today I challenge you, my fellow Shoe-A-Holics...find yourself the 'girliest' pair of shoes, with bows or ruffles, and that scream, "I'm a Lady, hear me roar!"

My fellow Shoe-A-Holics, I love shoes!  And sometimes, my love for shoes turns into an obsession, and all I can see is acquiring the next pair.  Which, on occasion can be a good thing, but rarely is not; case in point, these Sketcher-look-alikes. 

When I bought these, I had already purchased my Step-Up Maryjanes in Brown, Grey and Black; loving the fit and feel of a well made shoe, led me to a pair which was beautiful to gaze upon, but very painful to wear.  So my advice to you, all ye lovers of footwear is: Stick with established brands!

Long gone are the days where you can find a well made pair of shoes from a discount retailer, and often, buying shoes from shoe stores which carry a variety of brands, won't usually guarantee a better quality shoe either.  If you can find a great pair of shoes, and better still, those great shoes at a great price, get them or even a couple of pairs.  People joke about suffering for fashion, but damaging your feet are hardly worth that price!
