Ciao a tutti!

My fellow Shoe-A-Holics, my shoes today are a Shoe Arsenal essential; a sleek, feminine take on a traditionally masculine design, these oxford pumps are a must have for any shoe aficionado.  From the boardroom to the ballroom, they are the perfect day to night shoe that you can dress up or down, and still look polished.

Worthington -Dixie, Dark Brown

Ciao a tutti!

Auguri e Buon Capo D'anno!  Welcome to 2013, my fellow Shoe-A-Holics!

I hope you dressed up in a pair of amazing shoes for your New Year's Eve celebrations and were the envy of every shoe lover that had the good fortune to glance upon your footwear!  For those of you who rang in the New Year a little more subdued, I hope you caught some of the $20.13 sales and stocked up your Shoe Arsenal because I have a feeling this year holds many good things to come; regardless of where you walk on this journey we call life, you are always going to need a great pair of shoes to take you there!

So raise your sexy stems, panache platforms, and sky-high stilettos...2013, here we come!

How I Styled It?
Pushing the color limits of the color wheel, I got the inspiration for this outfit from an ill-fitting sweater I had seen at Target; it was a deep red color with a bright pink (fuchsia) heart to one side of the garment.  The collar was lined in a rich purple, and I instantly knew with what bottoms I would wear it.  But alas, as stated earlier, it didn't fit, but the inspiration stuck.  The tuxedo jeans are Soho DKNY Jeans, and the v-neck long sleeve t-shirt is from Old Navy.  The corduroy blazer and scarf were market finds in Sicily, and the color-blocked clutch is from the GAP.  The socks were from Old Navy (2011).

Flashback Friday! MIA -Pampa, Tan

Ciao a tutti!

It's Friday again, my fellow Shoe-A-Holics, and I get to showcase another of my favorites, these Pampa desert wedge booties from MIA!  One of the most searched items on my blog, these are a must have for ever Shoe Arsenal.  Why?  With the desert bootie back in full swing, differentiation is the key to amping up their style; like their 80's counterpart, they are suede with the simple lace-up design, but as they say, the devil is in the details, and these booties aren't lacking: the wedge heel, lug sole, and menswear-perforated detail and stitching throughout, these are not an updated version of a throwback style, they are completely re-invented!

.  I went back to Academichic's fabric color wheel for inspiration today; I had the boots and found these skinny cords on clearance at New York & Company, but with their bluish-greenish hue (it's a little hard to tell from the picture), I wanted to pair them with something other than my go to black. So I followed the Complementary Color Rule, and I matched up items which appear opposite each other on the color wheel: red and green, yellow and purple, and with my ensemble, blue and orange. The module stated that while pairing a color with it's direct complement can be quite jarring, substituting an intermediate color (I'm wearing the blue-green cords instead of the blue) can create a more subdued pairing...and it did!  The sweater top is by Pink Rose and the scarf is from the GAP.  I stayed in the same color family but used the richer blue in the belt and purse, both of which I bought in Italy at Iper Coop and Carpisa, respectively.  The hooded sweater is from Old Navy (several seasons ago).  SN

Thom McAn -Oxford Booties

Ciao a tutti!

The shoe advice this morning, my fellow Shoe-A-Holics, is coming from something I observed from my fashion insider, Mike (check out what Mike said to me and the inspiration for my blog, here in Welcome to my Shoe Arsenal).  I met Mike in 2010 while planning a fashion show for the non-profit for which we both volunteered.  Mike came to the production with a vast amount of fashion experience, greatly contributing to the success of the show.

The atmosphere in the office during the weeks and days prior to the fashion spectacle (although chaotic) was relaxed as far as clothing and dress.  As one-half of the Community Liaison team, I liked to step up the style and heels, because my interactions were mainly with the Local Nationals: from Italian Mayors and Provincial Vice Presidents to Military Leaders and vendors, while Mike, the other Community Liaison,  mainly worked with the respective American counterparts, and equally expressed his love of shoes from his formidable collection of footwear (an avid runner, Mike's shoes were often limited editions of styles, and hard to find colors).  But when the time came for a formal interaction, Mike donned, what I teased him for being 'smart shoes' -a pair of leather oxfords.  And he couldn't have looked smarter and put together in his designer suit than with those shoes.

These booties when I bought them (abut 20 years ago), I bought for function.  The mild southern winters would only prescribe something warm enough for a chill, not the functionality of a true cold weather boot.  But this timeless style, although it changes periodically, has remained basically the same, and is a very smart choice in anchoring any outfit.

How I Styled It?
Styling these booties was actually a lot of fun!  I read some time ago that the best way to tone down bright colors (in this case these electric blue DKNY Soho skinny jeans I bought at T J Maxx), is to pair the color up with black and white; so I did with this Urban Vibe tweed moto jacket I got from Wet Seal (several seasons ago).  For what color to pair with the jeans, I headed back to the clothing color wheel from Academichic.com, and followed their advice on Analogous Colors: Unlike complementary colors (colors opposite each other on the color wheel), analogous colors are neighbors and play subtly off each other, such as the primary color blue and the secondary color green (remember green is a combination of two primary colors: blue and yellow).   When you combine a primary color like blue, with it's analogous color green, you get a tertiary color: blue-green (teal), which pairs very well with either blue or the green!  The teal long sleeve t-shirt I got while overseas, and the snood (pictured here, I'm wearing it like an infinity scarf), I bought at the market along with the cuff.  The bag was an easy choice this time: this color blocked blue and teal clutch from the GAP!  SN

Until the 1990's, Thom McAn was a US retail shoe store chain which focused exclusively of well made leather goods at affordable prices. With the popularity of athletic shoes in the 1980's combined with subsequent decline in sales, Thom McAn retail stores closed, but the name brand can still be purchased at Kmart.

2 Lips Too -Too Chaos

Ciao a tutti!

My fellow Shoe-A-Holics, I am feeling a little Hippie-Chic, this morning!  Channeling my inner Flower Child and letting my Free Spirit soar, I'm embracing the counter-culture of freethinkers, beatniks and drop-outs as I let my inner Bohemian breakaway!

So many times I have romanticized that bygone era of outta-sight platform shoes; towering, sky-high platforms that one didn't just wear, but rather wore out:  dancing, shopping, to the beach and all points in between, and they were worn by everyone!   Yes, men likewise participated this footwear fashion frenzy alongside their female counterparts as they expressed their free love by day caught disco fever at night!  It saddens me some, having missed out on one of the most exciting shoe trends ever; although fashion is so wide spread now, cutting edge, widespread fashion shoe trends will never again entrance a culture like the platform shoe.  Peace, Love and Happiness!

How I Styled It?
It was a toss up when deciding to piece together an outfit to go with these shoes; I really had my heart set on wearing a pair of oxblood cropped pants, but over the last week or so, I moved from being within 3 lbs (1.5kg) of my diet goal to within 10 lbs (5kg), so the skinny cropped pants were out. Skirts are so forgiving, and I managed to fit my way into this mini skirt from Old Navy (bought 3 years ago), a Derek Heart bralette tank, and this cropped leopard print sweater from Body Central (also from a few years ago) topped off the outfit. Mad About Madden Week: Steve Madden -Empiire, Cognac

Buongiorno a tutti!  The word of the day, fellow Shoe-A-Holics, is Fabulous!

fab·u·lous/ˈfabyələs/

Adjective:  1. Extraordinary
                 2. Amazingly good
Synonyms:  wonderful, fantastic, legendary

True Story:  So I was heading to the Farmer's market, and yes, this is how I dress to go grocery shopping and basically everywhere else (you can take the girl out of Italia, but you can't take the Italia out of the girl!); and the market is held in one of the old city squares which has been converted to a park complete with playground, tennis courts and fountain.  I have waited since last year for it to open (apparently only Italian markets are open year round).  In any event, people were out and about on this particular day, walking their dogs, doing Zumba in the park and running the perimeter.  I had just crossed the street from where I found an awesome parking spot, when two ladies came around the corner.  The first spoke, "You look fabulous!"  The second, at a loss for words could only echo her friend's sentiment, "Fabulous!"  Grinning from ear to ear, I thanked them kindly and continued onto the market.  Needless to say, this made my day.

What a difference one word can make.

Here's hoping you have a fabulous day and look fabulous while doing so!

Bentornati! It's Boot Season: MIA -Pampa, Black

Buongiorno a tutti!

Taking a look at my outfit, I see that I am caught in a time warp, but of which decade, I am not sure;

Oversized floppy knitted beret from the '70's,

Legwarmers from the '80's of course,

Crossbody/Messenger bag from the '90's and Jeggings from the new millennium (2000's),

And the wedge-heeled desert boots with the updated menswear detailing and oxford lacing...
timeless!

Moda Spana –Golly

Ciao!

Ever had a day where you just felt like blah? I woke up today feeling just like that. About 6:35 this morning, I felt like getting back into bed, calling it a day and trying it all again tomorrow! I needed a problem-free day!

Problem: I wanted to wear a dress, but didn’t feel like shaving my legs.
Solution:  Full length t-shirt dress. þ

Problem:  I didn’t feel like combing my hair.
Solution:  Trendy hat.[1]  þ

Problem:  Temperature when leaving the house: 52 (11) degrees.  Temperature high today: 67 (19) degrees. (Where did all the hot weather go?)
Solution:  Leather Moto Jacket I thrifted[2] on vacay.[3] (€20) þ

Problem: The few extra pounds I gained on my cruise (gotta hide my pot belly)
Solution:  Low slung trendy belt.[4] þ

Problem: I felt like wearing sandals, but didn’t want to deal with the “Aren’t you cold?” (I’m Canadian, 67 degrees is summer!)[5]
Solution:  Sandals disguised as shoes with oxford-type lacing þ

Problem:  A purse to go with my shoes (while I don’t really do the ‘matchy’ thing, yes, I do like to match).
Solution:  Oversized trendy purse.[6] þ

I love problem free days…how about you?

Baci!

Shoe: Moda Spana –Golly
Color: Cognac Buff Leather
Style: Wedge Sandal
Heel: 4 inches (10 cm), Platform: ¾ inches (2 cm)

[1] One needs to have a pretty extensive hat collection to pull this off!
[2] Thrifted –previously owned and gently used.
[3] Vacay –Vacation.
[4] See footnote [1] and replace hat with belt
[5] Some summer days are only 67 degrees Fahrenheit, not all!
[6] See footnote [1] and replace hat with purse or footnote  [4] and replace belt, which replaced hat, with purse!  Remember, problem free doesn't always mean uncomplicated!

Steve Madden –Empiire, Black

Extra! Extra! Read all about it…Vintage Chic meets 70’s Flair in an Empiric explosion of style!

I'm a clog hog!  As a little girl, I used to sneak into my sister's closet and secretly wear her shoes...and my favorite? Her clogs.

There is something about the combination of leather meets wood, joined by metal which has always made me a fan.

Clogs can be casual or dressy; rugged or feminine; be worn with pants or skirts (and shorts)…and most importantly, clogs are timeless!

As styles come and go, the basic design of clogs remains the same:

One part retro + one part quirky + one part stylin’ = a whole lot of shoe!
