Welcome to my Arsenal

Buongiorno a tutti!

I recently discovered that I have a problem…I came across this Glamour article on their Slaves to Fashion column written by style blogger Tracey Lomranz on the 16th of March 2011:

The Average Woman Spends $49 On A Pair Of Shoes! How About You?

Let's talk shoes, shall we, gals? What's the most you've ever spent on a pair? According to a new survey, the average woman is willing to part with about $49 for some fabulous new stems...
The results of a telephone survey from ShopSmart magazine (the same people who publish Consumer Reports) have just been released, and they show that women are willing to spend an average of $49 per pair, but that 31% also cop to having spent more than $100 on occasion. The survey also shows that women own an average of 17 pairs of shoes, down from 19 pairs four years ago.

I confess that I'm not quite "average" here--I have well over 100 pairs! And while my collection is pretty diverse in terms of cost (we're talking $2 Old Navy flip flops, $15 vintage finds, and one very precious pair of $700 Choos), I pride myself on almost never, ever paying full price. The few Louboutins I own all came from consignment stores or the sample sale, and I scour stores like DSW, Century 21, and T.J. Maxx for off-price deals on the regular. How about you, ladies? What's the most you're willing to spend on a pair of shoes? Does the $49 mark sound about right, or are you splurg-ier than that? Or maybe you're a faithful Payless shopper? How many pairs of shoes do you have, and how much do you usually spend? Share!

To which I posted…

OMG...I really am a Shoe-aholic...I have about 300+ pairs of shoes (give or take 20...I've 50 pairs ready to donate)...while I'll agree that $700 is a bit pricey (for me at least), I am guilty of buying $80 sandals (only b/c I looked around and couldn't find this particular style anywhere else, so I paid full price...which I now call an early b-day gift to myself)...My most expensive shoes are custom made Timberlands (pink knee-high nubucks with my initials)...then three other pairs of leather Tim's $93, $103 and $115....I couldn't decide which color I liked the most)...I have only one pair of running shoes and maybe and one pair of flip flops (the flip flops I buy every summer b/c they're pretty worn by summer's end)...but I love a good sale...Micheal Kors for $20, Jessica Bennett of $15, Steve Madden's for $18, Kork-Ease for $17, Miss Sixty for $23, Guess for $ these prices and my sizes (10-11) I go a little wild when there are several color my husband loves to see me in heels...hence my extensive collection. Only thing I need now is a clever way to store them...I'm running out of space...ideas anyone?

That same day, I had a conversation with a fashion guru with whom I work, who I shall call “Mike” (who has worked in the fashion industry and has an eye for style, quality and trends for both men and women…and also of whom, I have a deep respect of his fashion sense) challenged me…’You can wear a different pair of shoes every day of the year” He remarked as a group of us gathered for lunch (only after he had given me his seal of approval for my new Two Lips Day Wedges and my Mojo Moxy Voodoo (all four pairs!). To which I responded, “I don’t have one for every day of the year…but I could surely come close!”

Which got me thinking…Could I really wear a different pair of shoes every day of the year?  Then I thought since I am running out of storage space in my arsenal, (I have offered my SIL (sister-in-law) to rent out one of the rooms in her house for my shoes (note to Nikki: I was just kidding))  Could I really go a full year without buying shoes?  I could try, but would only attempt to do so after years of therapy…So, I shall have only one primary mission for this blog: Document wearing all my shoes (sandals, boots…tutte le mie scarpe…for a year or until I run out of shoes…just realized that if I start today, next year there will be a February 29th … hmmm…the pressure).  My secondary mission is not to buy shoes for a year…as I write this I cannot keep a straight face because I know, some where out there, there are affordably priced black wedges of which I have been dreaming…so my secondary mission will remain a dream….but I can still dream, can’t I?  My tertiary mission is to talk to friends and find out their favorite shoe and why…what good is it to have great shoes, if you have no one with which to share them…or envy them J

So the gauntlet had been thrown, dice rolled, pistols drawn and all those other clever idioms….

Siamo pronti?  Sono pronta…andiamo! (Are we ready?  I’m ready…let’s go!)

Tutte le mie Scarpe!  All of my Shoes (sounds better in Italian doesn’t it?)!

Baci a tutti!

Stella Notte.

FYI…Mike probably has as many, if not more shoes than I do!

  1. You are a dollbabe--too cute! I have a pair of boots very similar to yours. Love them!
